Imaxia Corporation Introduces GelFox™ for Electrophoresis

Fast 2D Gel Software Debuts at Reno Conference; Beta Testers Wanted

Cupertino, CA - (November 2001) Imaxia Corporation introduced GelFox™, a new generation of image analysis software for electrophoresis, particularly for 2D Gels. The product was met with enthusiasm by researchers who were impressed by the speed and accuracy of the software. In particular, the ability of GelFox™ to render brighter colors and better contrast was visually apparent to those familiar with the typical images from 2D Gels.

Jeff Lee, Chief Technologist at Imaxia, was surprised at the scrutiny given his product by conference attendees. “One of the researchers tested our product thoroughly for some time the first day, then came back the second day to see how our software could compare gels if one was rotated. We knew that our software had tested well with a few degrees of misalignment but were surprised when the attendee wanted to test us with an extreme mismatch of almost 10 degrees. We had never done that ourselves, but were delighted when our system passed with flying colors!”

Immediately apparent to attendees at the Conference was that GelFox™ colors were brighter and images had more contrast than existing systems. More significant, however, were the invisible algorithms that performed comparisons between gel images at unprecedented speeds. According to Lee, the three to six hours typically needed to process 2D Gels was presented to him as an industry problem that badly needed a solution. After over a year of development, algorithms were created to speed up the comparison of imperfect protein spots that had proved challenging in 2D Gel electrophoresis. The result, now the foundation of GelFox, is coming on the market as a commercial product. The company claims its main features and benefits of GelFox to be:

1. Easy - user friendly, auto spot detection, automatic or semiautomatic matching requiring only one reference spot, presentation of brighter colors and better contrast, allows use of lower-skill operators

2.Fast - the whole process takes only several minutes instead of hours

3. Sensitive - GelFox detects weak spots and flaw

4. Accurate - proprietary adaptive match algorithm assures exact match even with large distortions. GelFox calculates intensity change on each spot and identifies missing and new protein spots.

At this time, Imaxia is seeking qualified researchers using 2D Gels for beta testing of GelFox™ as a commercial product. There is no charge for researchers who qualify as testers of GelFox if they are willing to fill out evaluation forms providing feedback. Interested researchers or other users of 2D Gels are invited to contact Imaxia at info@imaxia.com introducing their organization and activities and describing their intended use and testing of GelFox.

Imaxia has been privately funded during the development stage to date and is now inviting the first outside investors interested in the company to contact Tony Hu, President, by email (tonyhu@imaxia.com) or mail: Imaxia Corp., 41385 Morada Ct., Fremont,  CA 94539.
